Responsibility

We see it as our responsibility to ensure that we comply fully with all laws and regulations in everything we do, including environmental matters, and we require the same standards of our subcontractors, too. Naturally, the authorities in their respective countries of origin oversee the same issues concerning manufacturing and its environmental impacts. Our main responsibility lies in the development and design of our products, and taking care of the environment exerts a profound influence in several areas:

In design

Environmentally, it makes sense to make our products as durable as possible. All our chosen materials are tested for wear and tear for at least six months. They pass meticulous laboratory tests before being approved for production. Furthermore, every production run is subjected to random tests to ensure high quality. Finally, we always aim to create timeless designs to keep our products from ageing with passing trends.

In use

Careful design and choice of materials can greatly reduce the environmental impact caused by the wash and care of our products. Primarily this is achieved by using dirt-repellent, easy-care materials that require minimal amounts of water and detergents. We are also keen to give information and advice to help our customers take the best and most environmentally sustainable care of their Reima® products. For instance, it is always advisable to repair small tears or worn patches, instead of throwing otherwise usable products away. Many of our retailers will offer new trouser leg stirrups for free, if the old ones have worn out. We will also send patching materials to our customers if they wish to repair their Reima® products themselves.

After use

Regular and organised gathering, recycling and reuse of old products is in many ways challenging and costly for the clothing industry. However, durable Reima® products often achieve this naturally by being passed on from old users to new ones, among friends and relatives and in street markets. New ideas on clothes recycling are constantly emerging and catching on, such as the “Reima hood bank” at www.netcycler.fi.
